Starting life as a solo hip-hop project from vocalist Dan Smith, Listener began to evolve in 2005 with the release of “Ozark Empire” and subsequent grassroots Tour of Homes trek, consisting almost entirely of house shows. The addition of live guitar and drums to these shows initiated Listener’s transition from traditional hip-hop performances, into what would be called Talk Music – after their seminal 2007 release of that name.
Since then, they released “Return to Strugglleville” (live band re-workings of Ozark Empire) and “Wooden Heart” and thus found Listener quickly rising to the acclaim of fans and critics alike with their unique “talk music” sound and DIY touring across the US and Europe.
